Wine Stopper DIY

Wine Stopper DIY
These are so fun and easy to make.

You will need corks...new or used.

Oh, SWEET ... look there is a cork from the bottle we had at the Baltimore on vacation years ago...

You will need small knobs
I purchased mine at Hobby Lobby, they were 50% off.

Please its ok ... I'm not embarrassed to say I screwed up!
Learn from my mistakes...
(See photo below)

You will need a drill to put the hole in the cork.
I tried an ice pick...did not work.

The bit size that worked best for me was 3/16

Because I had a basket of corks, I dug and found the ones that were longer than the screw on the knob.

Drill a hole in your cork...try to keep it straight and watch not to go to far. You do not want to drill into the counter top.

On second thought you may want to place it on a cutting board while drilling. Better safe than very sorry.

Take the nut and washer off.
(See photo below)

Screw the knob into the cork...

Finish by adding ribbons and  little charms.
How cute and easy was that?
I think a little crystal bowl filled with these would be so pretty.

Placemat to Pillow DIY

How to turn a kitchen place mat into a pillow.
Susie is smack dab in the middle of making
Maddy a Diva Den (new bedroom).
She challenged me into making her a pillow out
of a place mat they found.

She just wanted me to add fabric to the back.

I could do that but why?
This place mat  was double sided with a coordinating fabric.
Perfect!

So here you go... DIY
Find a place mat that has a backing.
Take a seam ripper and take it apart at one end.

(see below)

Stuff your pillow insert into place mat.

Close the end with small whip stitches.

And there you have a pillow out of a place mat.

It takes more time to pick a placemat that to do this DIY.
Next time you are on the hunt for a cool little pillow ... maybe a stroll down the kitchen aisle can be the answer.

Water On The Floor...not a good sign

Yup..It happened on Super Bowl Sunday...

Camo Man walked into the utility to find a small puddle of water...
The big freeze was over.
He told the kids not to open it ... thats where Britt's edamame and Blaise's pizza pockets are stashed.
...no Sears repair man till Tuesday.
So on our day to cook hot wings, eat junk food, and watch funny commericals..we were out looking for a freezer.
(So glad we decided this year not to have a party.)

Not the way to spend the evening...
First store we stopped at only had a large freezer in stock!
On to the next place "Home Depot" ..
There we snatched up a small one that we will put in the garage till the big one is fixed.  I read a blog last week were a blogger had to get a dishwasher for Valentines Day.
I felt so bad for her...Well now I feel bad for myself! LOL
Looks like a little chill is in store for MY early Valentines gift.

Table Make Over

What do you do when you have spent wayyy too much time looking at blogs that feature furniture make overs?

You start searching for a piece of imperfect furniture in your home that you can sand until your stress is gone. LOL

Oh...look, I found one.
Noo not the chairs..the little table in the middle.
It has scratches all over the top.

Let's be honest here... I have no clue what I am doing.
Remember it is my sista Susie that does all the painting. LOL

Just like I told Camo Man... Don't Worry ...
the table is not a family antique, and did not cost too much.
What's the worst that can happen?
OK,  Don't answer that.

Things I Learned While Doing This Project
  •  Take the advice of the sales people. She advised me to use glaze. I used some stain that we had in the garage.. I am either really slow or that stuff dries really fast.

  • Wear Gloves!  No, not because it is cold... because the stain is gonna give your hands an instant tan.  Your nails, well let's just say I had to cut them off and the kids did not want me to cook their supper!  Hey I may have to try that one again. LOL

  • You may NOT need the second tip if you use glaze.. not really sure what the clean up is for glaze.

The stain did give it the finish I was looking for.

Actually these chairs and table where in the living room where the Christmas tree was.
I think that I might like them better in there...
I'm off to move some furniture..

AND...Here's the Tree

After fighting with the blue lights ... and adding every ornament that I have collected over the last 25 years..
I still could not stand the tree...so after three days...
I pulled off ALL 12,000 blue lights and just started over.
I had spend to much money on that darn FLOCKIN tree to let it get the best of me!
Added some old white lights (with green wires)  that I had.
Dug out all the red stuff that I have had for years and slapped those on top of all the traditional ormnaments.  Did not spend a cent on decor, but went up and down the step stool 5 million times.

 Oh Christmas Tree,
 Oh Christmas Tree,
How you liked to have killed thee..

I am just getting around to getting a picture ...
the branches, like me, have begun to get a bit whimpy and tired by this time of the season.
(No gorgeous wrapping here, I used
3yrs. worth of  left over scrap paper.)

I have been so busy making scarves, sugared pecans, microwave neck wraps, along with lots of other projects.
I  really can't talk about them because spying eyes want to know what I have made them for Christmas. HEHE...

Look at Snoopy having a grand ole time in that flocked tree...

Look out... I caught him this time on his snow mobile...
Sad that it is really 70 degrees and raining out!

Ginger...is enjoying napping in the section of the tree that had a missing branch.
(Great way to hide those gaps in real trees, use large ornaments or little stuffed gingerbread people)

I just have to share my bargain..
I picked these up at Lowes for 2.50.
It bloomed at the beginning of this week and is so pretty on my coffee table.  I have a red one in the kitchen, but it has not bloomed yet.. maybe it will be my New Years lilly.
Smells sooo much better that the paper whites.

Looking forward to sharing lots of recipes,
crafting, and my crazy adventures
with you in the New Year.

May you have a wonderful Christmas ...

Hoarding In the Make~Up Drawer

Hoarding In The Make~Up Drawer
 Don't Laugh, It Can Happen!

Have you ever just lived with something day in and day out, never noticing what it has turned into...
(No this is not about my husband)

Sometimes the things that are supposed to make you pretty are in such a mess, its just not that pretty.

Ok...are you ready for the excuse?
Well every weekend, I travel to our second home, so on Sunday night I just stuff the makeup bag back into the drawer..on top of the other makeup that I do not use often...

Lord...these are all those "Free" lipsticks.
You know they give you the colors
 NO ONE would ever wear...
Flaming Red, Outrageous Orange,
 Poop Brown
yeah yeah, you get the picture.
Can't throw them out...I may meet someone that can use that Outrageous Orange or the Poop Brown.

My daughter gave me this awesome
pink face goo...about three years ago.
It now has white dots in it...I don't think they are moving, but maybe I should throw it out.

Crazy huh?
I really only wear make~up about twice a week, so how did my drawer get this way?
Well time for a clean out!

I just love these little baskets...they make my make~up routine sooo much easier now.
AHHH  CALM...How I love CALM

Maybe that is the true preventive for
wrinkles...CALM

Fall In The Foyer

Slowly, but surely fall will arrive at my home
here in the south.
I started out with my lamps on my foyer table.
( My foyer table is actually an antique buffet.)

I taped three little leaves on the shades
 and
 then added some twine.

This past weekend we went hiking and I picked up a few acorns that I tucked in around my pumpkins and leaves.

Added a scarecrow and a new/old stain glass window.
(The stain glass is from Susie, she was getting rid of it so I saved it to use in a project thats in progress)

The gold tones in the stain glass reflecting
off the mirror in back is beautiful.
Using fall decor verus halloween...saves me lots of time,
I leave the fall decor until Thanksgiving.

This was the look in the foyer last year.
I was  never really happy with it,
I just could not get the look I was trying to achieve.
I really prefer this years look over last...What do you think?
Do you use Fall instead of Halloween ? or both?

Today I am linking to a great party hosted by
